Vulc or cupsole? Vulcanised soles are thinner and more flexible, so you feel the board straight away — the usual pick for flip tricks and ledges. Cupsoles are stitched to a thicker midsole and give up some feel for impact protection, which is what you want for stairs and gaps. Most people end up owning both.

Suede lasts longest. Canvas and mesh look good and breathe better, but suede in the ollie zone is what keeps a shoe alive past a few weeks. Some models add a reinforced or double-stitched toe.
